Gull Renews Long Term Logistics Contract
by Press Release on 2010-12-16
Auckland, 16 December 2010 – Gull New Zealand today announced it has renewed its contract with Mt Maunganui based freight operator Tranzliquid Logistics Limited (TLL) for a further five years.
Tranzliquid has partnered with Gull for the past decade, shipping fuel to an ever-increasing number of Gull sites. The contract was awarded via competitive tender, says Dave Bodger, General Manager, Gull New Zealand.
“Reliability, safe operation, representing the Gull brand and cost were all factors in the tender. Competition was steep.
“Full logistics provision is the key to Gull and Tranzliquid’s success. It’s not just trucking fuel, it’s the full service that Tranzliquid offers,“ says Bodger.
“Monitoring the stock on site, determining the best load to send where, the best rig to cart it and when to send to beat traffic is a fine art; a lot more than simply load, drive, and deliver. We give Tranzliquid a lot of responsibility in our processes and they completely run the logistics side of the business for us.
“Our sites are never dry of fuel. Tranzliquid’s involvement in our business means that we can pass delivery savings on to our customers, and have enough fuel on hand to meet demand on even the busiest of days. TLL make a great contribution to Gull, and we’re proud to have them as part of our team for at least the next five years.”
Based at Mt Maunganui, adjacent to Gull’s fuel terminal, Tranzliquid is a specialised bulk fuel and dangerous goods transport and logistics company owned and operated by Jackie Carroll and Greg Pert. The company has a team of 20 and operates a fleet of ten rigs, with a further two on order.
Collectively Tranzliquid trucks travel approximately two million kilometres on Gull business each year, delivering fuel to service stations, quarries, cruise liners, fishing boats and other transport operators around the North Island.

About Gull
Gull New Zealand is the independent oil company that is credited with keeping the fuel market competitive and giving savings to the Kiwi motorist. It has become a serious player, offering a real choice for motorists in an extremely competitive market. The company remains today a family owned operation.
Gull New Zealand was founded in 1998 by the Rae family who saw the need and potential for an independent energy supplier. Adherence to a philosophy of low cost management, prudent investment decisions and a carefully planned marketing strategy commenced with the building of a state of the art terminal in Mount Maunganui in 1998. Tanks were relocated from Marsden Point by barge, a feat the opposition said was “impossible”.
Gull New Zealand made the first retail sales of petrol in 1999 and has grown the network to over 40 branded sites.
Gull has been a first mover in introducing innovative new products to the New Zealand energy market. These include low sulphur diesel bringing environmental benefits well ahead of the opposition, as well as New Zealand’s first biofuel, Gull Force 10 (a 10% ethanol mixed with premium gasoline giving higher octane and cleaner performance).
2010 saw Gull achieve another first and extend its environmental focus with release of Gull Diesel Max, a high quality bio diesel blend sourced from sustainable New Zealand vegetable oil. Gull now has three service stations that only sell bio fuels which is another first for New Zealand.
